Today, we gather here with joy and respect to begin a new session at 武当山道教学院: Wǔ dāng daoist college. This is not only just the opening of simple classes of Wǔ dāng shān tài jí quán, yǎng shēng , daoist yang sheng, rituals and others. For many of you, it will be a great philosophical opening, an awakening of your mind, an initiation for your heart, a new way of learning.
Hoy nos reunimos con profunda alegría y respeto para inaugurar una nueva sesión en la academia daoista de la montaña wǔ dāng. Este evento va mas allá de la apertura de clases ordinarias de wǔ dāng tài jí quán, 养生yǎng shēng daoísta, rituales y otras disciplinas. Para muchos de ustedes, este día marcará el inicio de un gran viaje filosófico; un despertar psicológico, una iniciación para su corazón y una forma completamente nueva de aprender.
This Daoist college is a place for study daoist way of living, martial arts, philosophy, and rituals. But, if you wish, you can go beyond these teachings. An academy like this allows for the development of self-cultivation and inner harmony. By following in the footsteps of great masters who have left us an impressive legacy of concepts and life experiences, you can follow their examples and live your existence with benevolence, humility, frugality, and respect.
Este colegio daoísta es un espacio dedicado al estudio del estilo de vida daoísta, las artes marciales, la filosofía y la práctica ritual. Sin embargo, si así lo desean, pueden ir más allá en estas enseñanzas. Una academia como esta permite el desarrollo del auto cultivo y la armonía interna. Al seguir los pasos de los grandes maestros que nos han dejado un impresionante legado de conceptos y experiencias de vida, ustedes pueden adoptar sus ejemplos y vivir su existencia con benevolencia, humildad, frugalidad y respeto.
One important concept in daoist wisdom is无为wú wéi. This theory, which applies the principle of non-action, pursues sublimation, settles into mental abstinence, and attains a state of spiritual perfection. This means acting in accordance with the situation and its tendencies through careful thought, that is, complying with the changing laws of nature so that things maintain their natural course without artificiality. It is a term from Daoist philosophy, which allows one to react without acting. Depending on the matter at hand, the attitude of «non-action» can be used to make important decisions, such as in politics where the government does nothing and the people are autonomous (customs and traditions); it can also be used to cultivate the mind and character. Often our response is automatic; we are confronted with aggression or difficulty and react immediately, creating a bigger conflict.
Un concepto fundamental en la sabiduría daoísta es 无为 wú wéi. Esta teoría, que aplica el principio de no acción, busca la sublimación, se asienta en la quietud mental y aspira hacia un estado de perfección espiritual. Esto significa actuar de acuerdo con la situación y sus tendencias a través de una reflexión profunda; es decir, cumplir con las leyes cambiantes de la naturaleza para que las cosas mantengan su curso natural sin artificialidad. Es un término de la filosofía daoísta que permite reaccionar sin actuar. Dependiendo de la situación, la actitud de la «no-acción» puede utilizarse para tomar decisiones importantes, como en la política, donde el gobierno no interviene y el pueblo es autónomo (siguiendo sus costumbres y tradiciones); también puede utilizarse para cultivar la mente y el carácter. Con frecuencia, nuestras respuestas son automáticas: ante una agresión o dificultad, reaccionamos de inmediato, lo que suele amplificar el conflicto.
In this case, it is a matter of not acting rashly: 人法地，地法天，天法道，道法自然。:Human beings follow the laws of the earth, the earth follows the laws of heaven, heaven follows the laws of the Dào, and the laws of the Dào are natural.
En este caso, se trata de no actuar con imprudencia: 人法地，地法天，天法道，道法自然。El ser humano sigue las leyes de la tierra, la tierra sigue las leyes del cielo, el cielo sigue las leyes de Dào, y las leyes de Dào son naturales.
For example: The growth of trees is one of the manifestations of the laws of nature. Without the right time, place, and people, trees bear very small and unsuitable fruit. It would be unwise to force them to grow, to grow quickly, or to bear fruit.
Por ejemplo: el crecimiento de los árboles es una de las manifestaciones de las leyes de la naturaleza. Sin el tiempo, el lugar y las condiciones humanas adecuadas, los árboles dan frutos muy pequeños e inadecuados. Sería insensato forzarlos a crecer, a desarrollarse rápidamente o a dar frutos antes de tiempo.
Another great concept has emerged since ancient times. The diligent observation of our celestial environment, the movement of the stars, the various climatic changes, the establishment of calendar and timekeeping systems, the different lunar cycles, and the cyclical influence of the planets on our Earth has led to the definition of another Daoist concept:
Otro gran concepto ha surgido desde tiempos antiguos. La observación diligente de nuestro entorno celestial, el movimiento de las estrellas, los diversos cambios climáticos, el establecimiento de sistemas de calendarios y medición del tiempo, los diferentes ciclos lunares y la influencia cíclica de los planetas en nuestra Tierra han llevado a la definición de otro concepto daoísta:
天人合一: Heaven and Man are one.
This is associated with the previously mentioned concept of unity. These theories of ancient Chinese philosophy posit that humanity is an integral part of nature; in other words, there is a unity between Heaven and humanity. This explains our intrinsic dependence on our environment, the functioning of our physiology, and our vital integration with primordial energy.
天人合一 : unidad entre el cielo y el ser humano.
Esto se asocia con el concepto de unidad mencionado anteriormente. Estas teorías de la antigua filosofía china postulan que la humanidad es una parte integral de la naturaleza; en otras palabras, existe una unidad entre el cielo y la humanidad. Esto explica nuestra dependencia intrínseca de nuestro entorno, el funcionamiento de nuestra fisiología y nuestra integración vital con la energía primordial.
These ancient concepts remain important today. Our world is changing rapidly.
Estos antiguos conceptos siguen siendo importantes hoy en día. Nuestro mundo está cambiando rápidamente.
As President 习近平 xí jìn píng has said, we need to strive to rebuild a philosophy with a profound influence on the social sciences to regain our composure, heal our emotions, and educate our children and grandchildren. In these turbulent times, traditional daoist thought (which comes from 道家, derived from the 100 philosophers) can offer something valuable: redefining our goal for the 21st century, overcoming the law of the jungle that forces us to act as mere survivors in our society, and learning to behave as conscious beings in harmony and compassion with all other living beings on this planet.
Como ha señalado el presidente 习近平 xí jìn píng, debemos esforzarnos por reconstruir una filosofía con una profunda influencia en las ciencias sociales para recuperar nuestra compostura, sanar nuestras emociones y educar a nuestros hijos y nietos. En estos tiempos turbulentos, el pensamiento tradicional daoísta (que proviene de 道家 dào jiā: familia de Dào, derivado de los 100 filósofos, llamado también 100 escuelas de pensamiento) puede ofrecer algo valioso: redefinir nuestra meta para el siglo XXI, vencer la ley de la selva que nos obliga a actuar como meros supervivientes en nuestra sociedad, y aprender a comportarnos como seres conscientes, en armonía y compasión con todos los demás seres vivos de este planeta.
To the students beginning this new course, I hope you will study diligently and practice sincerely. Learn the teachings but also study in silence. Seek knowledge but also cultivate character. Grow in learning and obtain virtue. May this academy be a place where your mind becomes clear, your heart strengthened, and your spirit enriched.
A los estudiantes que comienzan este nuevo curso, espero que estudien con diligencia y practiquen con sinceridad. Aprendan las enseñanzas, pero también estudien en silencio. Busquen conocimiento, pero también cultiven su carácter. Crezcan en su aprendizaje y obtengan gran virtud.
